I asked this question of many of the students and counselors who stopped at the IFMA Atlanta Table at the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) and Skills USA Georgia State Championship event last year when IFMA participated in this event for the first time.
Saddly, all I got back from this question was a lot of blank looks.
The CEFGA Conference brings construction industry representatives together with more than 5,000 students to share career information and explore career pathways in a fun and interactive way. The participating students and counselors have a chance to connect with industry professionals including educators, professional organizations, representatives from many construction trades and Facility Managers.
IFMA Atlanta will have a table in the World of Construction Management, Sustainability, and Design again this year. We will share this space with other professional organizations such as the Construction Management Association of Georgia, colleges with programs in Construction and Facility Management, and our IFMA partners in higher education -Kennesaw State University and Georgia Tech. Our presence at this conference supports the interconnection among the construction industry and Facilities Management.
With 50% of Professional Facilities Managers reaching retirement age within the next 5-15 years, it is imperative that students be introduced to careers in Facilities Management. IFMA Atlanta’s presence at this event supports the IFMA Foundation’s Global Workforce Initiative.
IFMA Atlanta is excited to participate in this event on March 23-24, 2017 to share the basics of the Facilities Management Field with the next generation of Facility Managers. Please contact Ken Stephenson for information on how you can support our participation in this event.
