IFMA ATLANTA PRESENTS CERTIFICATE OF NONPROFIT FACILITY MANAGEMENT AT GEORGIA CENTER FOR NONPROFITS
In five sessions, IFMA Atlanta Community Services Committee is presenting the five-part Certificate of Nonprofit Facility Management through Nonprofit University at Georgia Center for Nonprofits. Representatives from nonprofit organizations are learning to master the essentials of renovating and maintaining their facilities with minimum impact on their operating programs. The first two sessions on August 7 and 21 covered gathering information crucial to the management of a facility and documenting and storing the information for immediate access.
In the first session, Facility Condition Assessment, participants learned the importance of this first step in facility management. Rick Yarbrough, Senior Project Manager for T. L. Gowin & Co., presented documents and procedures for assessing site, building, and building contents. He reviewed case studies and discussed how to use the collected information in order to more efficiently manage the facility.
In the second session, participants learned how to organize and supplement the collected data into a Facility Maintenance Manual for ready reference. Barbara Miller, Facilities Manager for AkzoNobel Coatings, reviewed the purpose of this manual, how to use it, and how to maintain it as a living document.
Resource documents from both sessions are available at www.ifmaatlanta.org/in-the-community.
Upcoming sessions are Renovations and Construction, presented by IFMA Board Members Ken Bryson and Ken Stephenson on September 11; Sustainable Facility Practices, presented by Cody David and Shane Totten from Southface on September 25; and Facility Safety and Security, presented by Barbara Miller, Steve Hamlin, and Epic Response on October 9.
