SUMMARY: Building Material Reuse
DESCRIPTION:Georgians send an estimated 730\,000 tons of readily reusable b
 uilding materials into landfills each year. These are local materials that
  can be utilized in their original form\, versus being recycled through en
 ergy-intensive processes. Your role as a designer\, contractor\, building 
 owner or facility manager in the material reuse process is critical. Join 
 us as we review the benefits and lessons learned in planning and implement
 ing successful deconstruction and salvage projects. Gain new tools to tran
 sform the industry‘s throw-away mentality: spec language\, expedited per
 mitting incentives and more. We’ll also explore the operational strategi
 es guiding Atlanta’s new nonprofit reuse facility: the Lifecycle Buildin
 g Center.\n\nInstructors bios:       Shannon Goodman\, LEED AP BD+C\, 
 previously spent 13 years working as an architect\, most recently with Per
 kins+Will (P+W). After coordinating a large salvaged building material don
 ation for P+W in 2009\, Shannon helped form the LBC in 2010. Prior to beco
 ming the Executive Director\, Shannon served as LBC Board Chair.\n\nAdam D
 eck previously managed one of the largest retail building material reuse c
 enters in the country. Adam also spent five years at Southface working in 
 both residential and commercial programs. With extensive hands-on experien
 ce in the policy and practices surrounding solid waste management\, Adam h
 as served on numerous solid waste advisory groups within Atlanta.\n\nLearn
