Open Innovation is a concept brought forth by Harvard Business School professor, Clayton Christensen

“Companies perform open innovation by essentially putting forth an innovation problem they are facing to the public (or, at least, a community of individuals outside of their firm) and then inviting individuals to share solutions to that problem.” “One of the main benefits of open innovation is that it allows firms to reach beyond their organizational boundaries and tap the outside expertise of a broader set of individuals than they could otherwise reach.” Clayton Christensen
