Those
who have been involved in IFMA for many years, are
aware of how the Chapter has grown in size and
professional achievement. We should be proud of
what the chapter has become and how we stand out.
As one of the top 5 chapters in the country, our
chapter is known at IFMA International
for:
- IFMA
Fellows
- Multiple
International Board of Director Presidents
- Multiple
IFMA Foundation Board of Trustee Members
- Sponsor
of a white paper for Sustainability
- 1st
Chapter to produce an annual report
- An
International President
- Chapter
Sponsored "Sustainability How-To"
Guides
These
would be just some of the reasons our Chapter
stands out as a leader and initiator. As we reach
our 30th anniversary, we should reflect on our
accomplishments, but we should also begin looking
forward to ways we can continue to plan our growth
and chapter development.
Join
me in celebrating the 30th anniversary of our
successful chapter at the December luncheon.
However, contact me with any suggestions for the
professional growth of our chapter and other ways
we can continue to stand out as a leader in the
IFMA International community.
Let's
start 2012 as the beginning of a new 30 years of
great strides in the IFMA field.
Our
chapter must continue to be great and continue to
grow. We must all have this goal and contribute
for the chapter to reach it's potential. Thanks to
all those who have established us, helped guide
us, and had a vision. We owe to them and all our
members a reason to celebrate!

Even with the global financial
crisis, the drive toward globalization by
businesses continues to be an undeniable fact. To
help them mitigate their risk, drive savings,
ensure consistency and to improve transparency of
data to support their management decisions,
companies are looking for a holistic, centrally
managed approach to support their regional/global
FM operations. They are expecting that it is
delivered seamlessly and include more programs
such as energy management and sustainability
programs. This presentation will address the
challenges, issues and benefits associated with
these propositions.

Recap:
October Luncheon "Perkins+Will: Telling the
Story"
The
October luncheon at Cherokee Town Club focused on
an in-depth review of Perkins + Will's high
performance Atlanta office, tracking LEED Platinum
Certification, 2030 Challenge and the Sustainable
Sites Initiative. Paula Vaughan, Associate
Principal, Perkins + Will, was the speaker and
presented the process of converting the existing
structure located at 1315 Peachtree into a place
that inspires innovation through sustainable
design, building and monitoring practices.
The
visuals helped attendees to understand the
building site (mid-town, across from the High
Museum), the technologies and building elements
used to improve energy performance, reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and create a healthy,
productive work environment that supports
collaboration and idea-sharing.
Some
of the highlights included:
Decommissioning the existing structure
which led to the development of new Atlanta
organization, LifeCycle Building Center;
Cistern on site for captured rainwater for
irrigation/flush fixtures; the use of
radiant heating and cooling; discussion of
The Precautionary Principle in relation to
avoiding harmful or toxic building materials.
At
the end of the presentation, Paula reviewed 10
Competency Quiz Questions for CFM credits.
Participants are also eligible for AIA
credits.

Call
for Volunteers - Subject Matter
Experts
IFMA
launched a major education initiative to define
the practice of facility management from a truly
global perspective by conducting the most
comprehensive Job Task Analysis (JTA) survey in
IFMA's history. Based on the JTA, updated
competency statements were written and efforts
have been underway to fully integrate the results
into IFMA's education programs.
With
the successful completion of the revised FMP
credential and the creation of the SFP specialty
credential, the IFMA Education Department is now
preparing for the next cycle of content
development. This next phase will focus on
developing a summary level Body of Knowledge for
the additional six competency areas which will in
turn be used in a variety of ways, including new
preparatory materials for those who plan to sit
for the revised CFM Exam anticipated to be
released in mid- 2013.
Subject
Matter Experts (SMEs) will play an important part
in this process, sharing their facility management
knowledge and expertise by working with
instructional design professionals to ensure
content quality. If you would be interested in
volunteering to serve as a SME for this project or
any future project IFMA may be developing, please
read the information and complete the application
located
here. | |
