As fall leaves
fill my yard, I stop to think how quickly the year is
passing. Not only has the weather reminded me of
these changes, but also the pace at the office has
moved from frantic fiscal government year-end to a
consistent and steady planning of projects through
December. For many of you reading this
e-newsletter, you're in the midst of wrapping up 2009
projects, spending dollars before they disappear and
planning 2010 budgets. For the Atlanta Chapter
Board, it's finding the most strategic ways to get our
professional and associate members involved in World
Workplace 2010 (WWP, the national IFMA conference)
being held in Atlanta in October 2010. For
associate members, the Atlanta Chapter will be rolling
out a new Sustaining Patron program, with first
privileges for EXPO booth discount opportunities, an
IFMA Atlanta Central Booth located in the center of
the EXPO's Premier Peachtree Street banner aisle
reserved for our Atlanta Chapter members. The
new sustaining patrons tiered package program will be
rolled out at the Annual Sustaining Patrons
Reception. Those attending will have the first
glimpse at the expo floor plan and the available
spaces. The full associate membership will
receive details on how to join this elite group that
supports the Chapter in the coming weeks.
As many of you know, I've worked my way
through the chapter from being a passive member to
current president by way of several committees, but
I'm most passionate about our community service.
Again this year, our chapter will be providing toys to
support our community partners' who offer children's
programming and support families which will be
struggling this holiday season and, for the first
time, tools to support the Atlanta Community Tool
Bank. On behalf of the chapter, I'm asking
everyone to please bring an unwrapped toy and/or tool
to the December luncheon. Our young
professionals are leading the holiday spirit by
charging an entry fee of canned food to their November
social with CoreNet. As an organization we can
be proud that we repeatedly show our generosity and
community spirit, especially as we go all out in this
season of hope, love and charity.
In closing, "Let us remember that, as
much has been given us, much will be expected from us,
and that true homage comes from the heart as well as
from the lips, and shows itself in deeds." (Theodore
Roosevelt, 1901). I would like to wish each one
of you the best of happiness during the holiday season
and joy throughout the year to come.

The
Community Service Commitee held its quarterly lunch and
learn for non-profits. We had several non-profits attend
as they learned how to check and what they needed to
schedule maintenance for their electrical units.
Thank you to Mayberry Electric for the
presentation and use of their
space. If you would be interested in helping
with the planning of these lunch and learns -- let me
know.

The Georgia Tech Integrated Facility
Management graduate program has been credited with
producing half of the FMP designations for the Atlanta
Chapter. It is no surprise, since graduates of the
Integrated Facility Management graduate program are
eligible to apply. This is because their
coursework covers all the required areas for the
Facility Management Professional designation.
Recently, two new FMP's, Yong Hwan Kim, FMP,
and EunHwa Yang, FMP, graduated from the GT program
and submitted paperwork to IFMA to become the latest
designation-holders. Congratulations are
also in order for the FIVE awards Georgia Tech students
who won scholarships during World Workplace!
Candice Bullard was the graduate winner of the ePoster
Competition and won a stipend to attend the EuroFM
conference in Madrid in June 2010. Candice, along
with new FMP's EunHwa Yang and Yong Hwan Kim, and Jun Ha
Kim and Parminder (Pammy) Juneja, Ph.D., also won
scholarships ranging from $1,500 - $4,000 during the
Education Reception at World Workplace Orlando. This
is the largest contingent of Georgia Tech scholarship
winners ever. Congratulations to them
all!

November Luncheon Employees are gone but the furniture is
still here November's
luncheon, held at the 1420 Room in Dunwoody, was
IFMA Atlanta's first interactive
presentation. Luncheon participants were
posed a series of questions and asked to develop
creative solutions from a Facilities viewpoint to
address issues of downsizing, depleted resources
and maintaining services and morale.
Moderated by Stewart Smith with
Great American Flooring and Merri Anne Pfeffer of
Prommis with added commentary from panelists Kathy
Roper, GA Tech, Penny Whitlock, CompuCredit, and
Shan Gastineau, JLL, the questions fostered lively
discussion amongst the participants. Each table
was assigned a question and asked to discuss
possible solutions. The Moderator for each
table presented that table's ideas to the general
audience. With each question came real life
experience from the panel adding to the solutions
presented. The topic proved to be a timely
one as many of us have been impacted by today's
economic climate. The room was abuzz with
input and insight. IFMA
Programs Committee would like to thank all our
participants and panelists for a very candid and
informative session. With special thanks to
Merri Anne and Stewart for their moderation and
microphone passing skills. We
look forward to seeing you at Decembers Awards
Ceremony and please join us for a very special
January Luncheon where our guest speaker will be
Jennifer B. Kahnweiler discussing her new book
"The Introverted Leader". Mark you
calendars because you will not want to miss this
one!

IFMA
Atlanta held it's first ever "BOWL-A-WEEN" last
month. Around 30 "boo"-lers and spectators
joined us for the networking social event to
benefit the IFMA Foundation. Mathew
Braswell, Chosen Enterprises won "Scariest
costume" and Dixon Poole, Rand America won
"Highest score" with 161. However, everyone
was a winner, as fun was had by all. Most
importantly, the IFMA Atlanta Chapter was the
biggest winner as we raised $1745.00 for the IFMA
Foundation.

The Atlanta Chapter of IFMA
Presents: CFM Exam
Review Class of
2010 February 3rd and 4th, 2010 (8:00 AM - 5:00
PM) Location: EMCOR Services
Aircond | 400 Lake Ridge Dr SE Smyrna GA
30082 What is the Review
Class? This is the definitive
course of preparation for successfully completing
IFMA's Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
examination. It is designed to provide those
preparing to take the exam with increased
confidence. It is not an in-depth study of FM but
an opportunity to self-evaluate your readiness to
take the exam. The review discusses the format,
sample questions and information related to the
nine competency areas tested in the
exam. IFMA's Nine (9)
Competencies:
·
Leadership & Management
·
Communication

Finance
·
Human & Environmental Factors
·
Planning & Project Management
·
Operations & Maintenance
·
Quality Assessment & Innovation
·
Real Estate
·
Technology Top Five
Reasons to Get
Certified
1.
Distinguish Yourself. In today's
competitive job market, your CFM status puts you
ahead of the competition. Certified Facility
Managers have proven their abilities and
demonstrated their commitment to achieving
excellence in the
profession. 2.
Invest in Your Future. CFMs earn, on
average, 13% more than non-certified facility
managers. Earning your CFM is one of the most
important career decisions you can make.
3.
Demonstrate Your Leadership and
Initiative. It's not easy to achieve
CFM status. The CFM credential is a tangible sign
of your success. Share your expertise by
mentoring up-and-coming members of your
organization. 4.
Advance Your Profession. Facility
managers must be proficient in a wide range of
competencies. The CFM program articulates the
level of skill and talent required in this
industry. 5.
Enhance Your Professional
Network. Enjoy opportunities to
network during special CFM events. IFMA chapter
members will develop their professional
relationships while tapping into a wide spectrum
of credible and knowledge
resources. The course will be led by
Kathy Roper, an experienced Certified
Facility Manager, IFMA Fellow, Professor at
Georgia Tech's Facility Management Masters
Program, and a contributing author for the
recently published "Facility Management Handbook
Third Edition." Kathy has extensive knowledge of
the Facility Management profession and is an
approved Instructor for the CFM Review
Course.
This is an invaluable opportunity
for all Professionals interested in Career
Development through Certification. A candidate for
CFM does not have to be a member of IFMA to obtain
the CFM designation and so this course is open to
members and non-members alike. After
completing the course, individuals ready to take
the CFM exam will submit an application to IFMA
Headquarters in Houston, Texas.
